For the first time I personally can remember, the Black Boy have started the season with back to back wins!
On a stupidly hot Saturday we entertained RF Saints who gave us a fair beating in pre season with us losing 7-2. Luckily for us pre season meant bugger all and despite having to wait right to the last minutes of the match we got the win we deserved.
I think it is fair to say we did not have the best of first halves with the heat seeming to sap a bit us energy from us. Whilst RF Saints were not dominating the game they did seem to be first to most of the loose balls and seemed to just be having the run of play, resulting in them scoring a goal after 25mins. We had plenty of our own chances in the first half with Phil and Shanks narrowly missing whilst Mark Austin was wrongly ruled off side for a chance he then finished well.
At half time we all seemed to know the game was there to be won and we all knew we should not be losing to a team like RF Saints but needed to up the effort and show a bit more of ourselves.
Second half we looked a lot stronger and seemed to have a bit more when going forward and put RF Saints on the back foot from the off. It did seem like our chance would not come our way with shots going just wide, being called offside for every forward pass but eventually we got the break through. After the ball seemed to be passed between every player in the box the ball dropped to Phil, who after looking like the shot was never going to get taken, slotted home to get us back level.
RF Saints had chances of their own on the counter, but we always looked the more likely to win. With 5 minutes to go the chance fell to Phil who placed his shot brilliantly to finish from the edge of the box.
Whilst the performance was not as strong as the previous week it was great to see us fight back after half time and take the victory. I know everyone was knackered at full time given the heat, but everyone worked hard and everyone should give themselves a pat on the back for the effort they put on.
It was also a match which saw us making 4 changes to the starting 11 from the previous week, 3 of which in defence. Whilst normally the attack take the glory this week I want to say a big well done to everyone in defence, especially those who were playing out of position but got stuck in and gave it their all for the team.....great to see that level of commitment and effort.
Next week we travel to the mole infested plains of Beck Row and we should be going there knowing we are good for the win.....but lets make sure we turn up ready to put in the work to get it (hopefully without a 1-0 deficit at half time!)
