Bury Rovers vs BBFC

After a tough game we managed to do the double over Bury Rovers this weekend with a well earned 5-3 victory, putting us joint second in the league with one game left before the Christmas break.

As always with Bury Rovers the match from start to finish was hard work and we never really played at our highest level, but we always looked likely to score when counter attacking. After a strong start to the game Bury Rovers took the lead against the run of play, with an uncharacteristic spill from Driver allowing an easy finish. We continued to work hard and it always looked like 'when' rather than 'if' we would pull a goal back. Our first goal came from the style of football which has served us well all year, a good break down the wing by Flan and Mark was in the box to convert Flan's cross.

At half time we all knew we could get a win out of the game, knowing the points were important for us in staying in the hunt for the promotion places. We started the second half well and were unlucky to off had a goal by Carl disallowed. After a couple of changes we quickly got ourselves in the lead through Carter's well taken goal and we looked like we would go on and score more. Unfortunately a rather controversial free kick gifted rovers an equaliser, things seemed like perhaps they were not going to go our way.
Then our luck momentarily changed when Rees decided he would grab his first goal for the club from just inside the Rovers half when his long ball into the box looped over the keeper and went straight into the goal. However yet again Rovers were able to find an equaliser out of the blue following a well taken goal. In the last 10 minutes however through battling hard and pressing Rovers all over the pitch we managed to grab two late goals, Mark capitalising on a mistake from the keeper and Carl scoring a good header from a well placed corner.

A good win despite not playing our best football, however what we did do is work our socks off for the full 90 minutes and it was through perseverance and continuing to believe that we could win that we were able to score two goals in the last 10 minutes Next week against Thurston is likely to present a similar game and we will need to ensure we tackle them in the same way we did Rovers this weekend. Well done to everyone for another good result for the team, one more to go to top a really good 2012 for the Boy!
